HTML Text Basics

HTML text formatting

Emphasis is an important aspect of web design and HTML provides us with several elements to add emphasis to text.

By using the , , , and elements, we can add meaning to our text and make it stand out to users:

 • The tag is used to add emphasis to text, usually in the form of italic text.
 • The tag is used to indicate that the text within it should be given strong emphasis.
 • The element is used to highlight text, making it stand out from the surrounding text.
 • The tag is another HTML emphasis tag that can be used to indicate that the text within it should be displayed in a smaller font size than the surrounding text.
